Different for girls: are donors and government up to countering gender inequalities in Education?
Swainson, Nicola /

Abstract:
Why do gender inequalities persist in education in developing countries? In particular, how do policymaking and implementation on the part of donors and governments affect girls' access to education? What knowledge relating to gender and education is available to policymakers? Are lessons learned incorporated into new policies and practices? Studies in Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe probed the political, social and cultural obstacles to making gender policies and projects stick. A report on the outcome of this work also looks at groups and alliances that have supported gender equality in education
