Abstract:
Like other developing countries, Tanzania has been implementing the Economic Recovery Programmes (ERPs) since 1986. The implementation of the ERP policies has affected all the major sectors of the Tanzanian economy including the agricultural sector. This paper reviews and discusses the effect of the reform policies on the livestock sub-sector. The review reveals that ERP measures such as market liberalisation, foreign exchange liberalisation, subsidy removal and price deregulation have had both positive and negative impact on the livestock sub-sector.
