Abstract:
Rapid urbanization is a recent phenomenon in the developing countries, starting in the 19505 as compared to developed countries where it occurred much earlier. Rural-urban migration, stimulated by the 'urban lights" pull factor, and natural population increase are the major causes of rapid urban population growth. The outcome is a general urban crisis since municipals' resources are overwhelmed by excessive demand for social services that they cannot meet, eventually calminating into urban pollution.
