Abstract:
Rice is one of the most important food crops of the Southern Highlands region of Tanzania. Smallholder farmers grow the crop under both lowland and upland rainfed conditions. Very few use irrigation. The mean yield achieved by smallholders is about I t ha'' or less. This paper reviews the major research work the past ten years on rice production in the Southern Highlands.
