Sectoral Policies, Performances and Employment Implications in Tanzania

Abstract:
The study review how the Micro-economic policies and sectoral policies have been influencing economic growth, employment and sustainability of livelihoods, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing and tourism sectors. It was found that the policies pursued in Tanzania from the mid 1960s to mid 1980s involved restriction and control, and direct state investment in all sectors of economy and were responsible for economic stagnation and sharp deterioration of living conditions, particularly between the late 1970s and mid 1980. Reforms implemented since 1986 shifted from command to market economy and later on more emphasis were put on sectoral policies, thus implementation of the sustainable industrial development policy, agriculture and livestock, and the Nation Tourism policy were crucial for sustainable development and employment provision by these sectors
