Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to investigate the socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS on education sector. The field survey was conducted in Mbeya Urban District from September to October 2002 to collect primary data on HIV/AIDS pandemic. This survey was conducted using 4 types of structured questionnaires, which were administered to head teachers, teachers responsible for student welfare, orphan students (children) whose parents died of HIV/AIDS, and the office of the Municipal Education Officer. The random sampling was used to select both secondary and primary schools at different geographical location. The random sampling was desirable to ensure better representation and avoid biases.
